Simon Thomas
Field Archaeologist
Simon Thomas has worked on and off in Archaeology for nearly 20 years. He has experience of excavation, survey, aerial photography as well as post-excavation practice. In his nearly 20 years of work in Archaeology he has also built bespoken equipment for the processing of archaeological finds for the University of Leicester Archaeological Services and for the University of York. Since 2020 he has been increasingly active in this field and I am Co-PI in an Experimental Archaeology Project on flax production in Ryedale, North Yorkshire and in Kildare County, Ireland in collaboration with Fibershed and UCD School of Archaeology, Dublin, Ireland. He has taken part in a number of international projects in Italy and Tunisia. In these projects he has gained experience in the practice of Archaeology in Academic settings. He is committed to public engagement and he has taken part in a great variety of community engagement activities, sites open days, and public talks.
